On the eve of the 35th anniversary of the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan, a participant in the war, a resident of the village of Gortol, police warrant officer Vasily Golovach, was invited to the State Educational Establishment “Telekhan Special Secondary Educational Boarding School” to meet with children. The initiator of such a meeting was the Ivatsevichi District Department of Internal Affairs, because Vasily Sergeevich is currently the only veteran of the regional department who went through a terrible war thousands of kilometers from his homeland.
The guest told about his combat journey, which lasted from 1986 to 1988 in an automobile logistics support battalion, to 7th-9th graders, members of the Zaslon club. By the way, the club was founded on December 18, 2023, the opening ceremony was attended by the Minister of Internal Affairs Ivan Kubrakov. The guys asked questions to Vasily Golovach, wondering how the driver of a heavy truck through dangerous mountainous terrain delivered food to Soviet military units and how he survived the shelling and death of his colleagues.
At the end of the event, Deputy Head of the Ivatsevichi District Department of Internal Affairs Andrei Khvainitsky handed over to the Afghan soldier, retired police warrant officer Vasily Golovach, a Certificate for assistance in protecting public order, promoting the activities of internal affairs bodies and internal troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Belarus in the education of personnel, signed by the head of the Ivatsevichi District Department of Internal Affairs Vladimir Sukhenko.
